To select which accounts to add, launch iTunes and connect your iPod. Select your iPod from the source list (the column at the left of the iTunes window; your iPod appears under the DEVICES heading). The iTunes window updates and displays a summary of your iPod, including its name, the software version, and so forth. Click the Info tab at the top of this window. Scroll down the Info tab to the Mail Accounts section. Here, you can choose whether to synchronize your mail accounts to your iPod. Check the Sync selected Mail accounts check box, and pick the accounts you want to use. Next, scroll down farther on the Info tab, below the Mail Accounts and Web Browser sections, to the Advanced section (see Figure 11-3). As a rule, your iPod won t add new accounts until you force things. Unlike normal syncs that just update data, when you select to replace your mail accounts on your iPod using the Advanced settings, iTunes updates your iPod with all the accounts you just selected in the Mail Accounts settings.

There are two primary ways of modifying the CouchDB configuration file. The first is to manually edit the file itself. You can find this in the directory /usr/local/etc/couchdb or /opt/local/etc/couchdb, depending on your operating system. The configuration file is one of the areas of CouchDB that has changed significantly over recent releases. At the time of writing, the latest version of CouchDB provides two configuration files, default.ini and local.ini. The default.ini file includes the standard CouchDB configuration options and is overwritten when you upgrade CouchDB. As a result, any modifications you make to default.ini will be lost when you upgrade. For that reason, any changes to the CouchDB configuration should be made in local.ini, which will not be overwritten in an upgrade. The second, and easier way of changing configuration options, is to use the Futon web-based administration interface, which includes a utility for modifying CouchDB s configuration file. If CouchDB is installed on your local computer, you can open the Futon configuration utility by pointing your web browser to the address http://127.0.0.1:5984/_utils/config.html. See Figure 13-1 for an example of this utility in action.

The goal of the type system is to introduce familiar object-oriented programming concepts to JavaScript like classes, inheritance, interfaces, and event-handling. This layer also extends existing JavaScript types. For example, the String and Array types in JavaScript are both extended to provide added functionality and a familiarity to ASP.NET developers. The type system lays the groundwork for the rest of the Ajax core library. Next up in the core library is the Components layer. Built on top of the type system s solid foundation, the Components layer does a lot of the heavy lifting for the core library. This layer provides support for JSON serialization, network communication, localization, DOM interaction, and ASP.NET application services like authentication and profiles. It also introduces the notion of building reusable modules that can be categorized as controls and behaviors on a page. This brings us to the top layer in the library: the Application layer. A more descriptive title is the application model. Similar to the page lifecycle in ASP.NET, this layer provides an event-driven programming model that you can use to work with DOM elements, components, and the lifecycle of an application in the browser. HTML, JavaScript, and XML Script ASP.NET AJAX-enabled web pages are written in HTML, JavaScript, and a new XMLbased, declarative syntax called XML Script. This provides you with more than one option for authoring client-side code you can code declaratively with XML Script and imperatively with JavaScript. Elements declared in XML Script are contained in a new script tag:

Replacing mail accounts isn t something you do all the time. You ll want to do this account replacement with new iPods that you want to initialize, when you ve moved your iPod s home to a new computer, or after you ve restored your iPod s firmware to factory settings. If you just want to add a new e-mail account, add it directly on your iPod rather than using iTunes. It s easier.
